A deadly shooting aboard a Metro bus near the Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden early Saturday morning has left the Cincinnati community mourning the loss of 52-year-old James Bond while authorities continue investigating the violent incident that unfolded during a routine transit ride.

According to the Cincinnati Police Department, officers responded shortly after 5:30 a.m. on May 16, 2026, to the 3400 block of Dury Avenue near Erkenbrecher Avenue after receiving reports of a shooting aboard a Route 46 Metro bus. When officers arrived at the scene, they discovered James Bond suffering from multiple gunshot wounds inside the bus.

Emergency responders immediately began life-saving efforts, but Bond was tragically pronounced dead at the scene due to the severity of his injuries. Authorities said a second adult was also injured during the incident and later arrived at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center with injuries described as non-life-threatening. Officials confirmed that no other passengers or the bus driver were physically harmed during the shooting.

Investigators stated that the violence reportedly began as a physical altercation between individuals aboard the bus. According to police, the confrontation escalated rapidly before gunfire erupted inside the vehicle, turning an early morning commute into a scene of panic and tragedy.

Authorities later arrested 27-year-old Leonte Coston in connection with the fatal shooting. Officials said he is currently being held at the Hamilton County Justice Center and faces multiple charges, including murder, having weapons under disability, carrying a concealed weapon, and receiving stolen property. He is expected to appear in court for arraignment proceedings.
