The community of Windham is mourning the tragic death of Devan Nolet, 30, of Mansfield, who died following a fatal motorcycle crash on Route 32 on Friday evening.
According to authorities, the collision occurred at approximately 5:50 p.m. near a commercial area in front of Apollo Pizza. Troopers from the Connecticut State Police Troop K, along with Windham EMS, responded to reports of a serious crash involving a motorcycle and a passenger vehicle.
Investigators stated that a Ford Explorer, driven by an 83-year-old man from North Windham, was traveling northbound on Route 32 and attempted to turn left into a driveway. During the maneuver, the vehicle entered the path of oncoming traffic. At the same time, Nolet was traveling southbound on a Suzuki GSX-R750 motorcycle, and the two vehicles collided.
Authorities reported that the impact caused Nolet to be thrown from the motorcycle. He struck a nearby utility pole after being ejected from the bike. Following the initial collision, the Ford Explorer continued forward and struck the rear of a parked vehicle.
Emergency responders transported Nolet to Windham Hospital with life-threatening injuries. Despite medical efforts to save him, he later died at the hospital. Officials confirmed that no other serious injuries were reported in the crash.
Police have stated that the investigation remains ongoing as they continue to review evidence, roadway conditions, and the actions of both drivers leading up to the collision. No charges or determinations of fault have been publicly announced at this stage.
